Cookie Policy

1. What Are Cookies?

Dar Al-Kutub As-Sunnah (“we”, “our”, or “us”) uses cookies and similar technologies on this website. Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help websites remember your preferences and improve your browsing experience.

We also use local storage in your browser for a related purpose: storing a consent timestamp as a backup to help validate your cookie preferences. Under UK PECR, similar technologies are subject to the same consent rules as cookies where they store or access information on your device.

We use cookies in compliance with UK PECR (Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations) and UK GDPR. We only set non-essential cookies with your explicit consent. No non-essential cookies or scripts are placed before you make a choice on our cookie consent banner.

We use Google Firebase Analytics (Google Analytics 4) to understand how visitors use our site, but only after you give consent. Analytics cookies are never set before you opt in, and you can withdraw consent at any time. For how we handle personal data such as waitlist sign-ups, see our Privacy Policy.

2. Types of Cookies We Use

2.1 Necessary Cookies and Storage (Required)

These are essential for the website to remember your cookie choices and cannot be disabled through our preferences tool. They are set only after you make a consent choice (Accept All, Reject All, or Save Preferences).

NameTypePurposeDuration
cookie_consent_v1First-party cookieStores your consent categories, timestamp, and policy version180 days
cookie_consent_timestamplocalStorageBackup timestamp for expiry validation180 days

2.2 Functional Cookies (Optional)

These cookies enable enhanced functionality and personalization, such as remembering language or display preferences. You can toggle this category in our Cookie Preferences modal, but we do not currently set any functional cookies. If we add them in the future, they will only be used with your consent.

2.3 Analytics Cookies (Optional)

These cookies help us understand how visitors use our website, such as which pages are visited and how people navigate the site. We use Google Firebase Analytics (Google Analytics 4). These cookies are set only if you consent to the analytics category, and not before. You can withdraw consent at any time using the “Manage Cookies” link in the footer, which stops collection and clears these cookies.

NameTypePurposeDuration
_gaThird-party (Google)Distinguishes users for Google Analytics 42 years
_ga_*Third-party (Google)Persists session state for Google Analytics 42 years
_gidThird-party (Google)Distinguishes users for Google Analytics 424 hours

2.4 Marketing Cookies (Optional)

These cookies are used for advertising and campaign tracking. You can toggle this category in our Cookie Preferences modal, but we do not currently use marketing cookies or load any advertising scripts. If we add them in the future, they will only be used with your consent.

3. How We Store Cookies

Cookie preferences are stored in your web browser (on your device), not in our database. We also store a consent timestamp in your browser's local storage as a backup to help validate your preferences. Your cookie choices are never uploaded to our servers.

Automatic deletion: Both the consent cookie and the local storage backup expire automatically after 180 days. This happens in two ways:

  • Your browser automatically deletes the cookie after the 180-day expiry period
  • Our system checks the consent age and removes expired data when you visit our website

After 180 days, you will be asked to reconfirm your cookie preferences when you next visit our website.

4. Managing Your Cookie Preferences

When you first visit our website, a cookie consent banner appears. No non-essential cookies are set until you make a choice. You can:

  • Accept All — consent to all cookie categories (necessary, functional, analytics, and marketing)
  • Reject All — decline all non-essential cookies; only necessary storage is used to remember your choice
  • Manage Preferences — open the Cookie Preferences modal to choose each category individually

Reject All is presented with equal prominence to Accept All, in line with UK guidance. You can change your mind at any time by:

  • Clicking the “Manage Cookies” link in the footer
  • Using Reject All or updating toggles in the Cookie Preferences modal
  • Changing your browser settings to block or delete cookies

Non-essential scripts load only after you give consent for the relevant category. Changes to analytics preferences take effect immediately when you save your choices; you do not need to reload the page.

5. Third-Party Services

We use Google Firebase to host our website and store waitlist sign-ups in Firestore. Google may process standard hosting and service logs (such as IP address and request data) as part of delivering the site. Where you consent to analytics, Google Firebase Analytics (Google Analytics 4) sets the analytics cookies described above; these are only set after you opt in. We do not use any third party to set advertising cookies on this website.

Waitlist information (such as your email address) is personal data covered by our Privacy Policy, not this Cookie Policy.

For more information about how Google handles data, see the Google Privacy Policy. For international transfers, see section 9 of our Privacy Policy.

6. Browser Settings

You can control cookies through your browser settings:

  • Block all cookies
  • Block third-party cookies only
  • Delete cookies when you close your browser
  • View and delete cookies and site data stored on your device

Note: Blocking necessary cookies may prevent us from remembering your consent choice, and the cookie banner may appear on every visit.

7. Consent Withdrawal

You can withdraw your consent for non-essential cookies at any time. To do so:

  • Click “Manage Cookies” in the footer, then disable non-essential categories and save
  • Choose “Reject All” on the consent banner or in the Cookie Preferences modal

When you withdraw consent for a non-essential category, we update your stored preferences to reflect your choice. A small necessary cookie and local storage entry remain on your device so we can remember that you declined non-essential cookies and avoid asking you on every visit. If analytics cookies were set, we stop collection and clear them from your device. Necessary storage cannot be disabled while you remain on the site, as it is required to remember your choice.

Your consent preferences also expire automatically after 180 days, after which the banner will appear again so you can reconfirm your choices. To remove all stored preferences immediately, you can clear cookies and site data for this website in your browser settings. For wider data protection rights, see our Privacy Policy.
